The Salem Family Birth Center is rated "The Best Place to Have a Baby" by the Oregon Statesman Journal. The Salem Family Birth Center is also a "Baby-Friendly" designated hospital for over five years. A wide variety of care providers are available to cater to the family's needs-including OB/GYNs, midwives, hospitalists, a genetic counselor, nurses, and lactation consultants. Salem Family Birth Center also has a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit available for high-risk pregnancies and babies who need a little extra care. Labor rooms are spacious, with TVs and audio/stereo systems available so the mother can customize her labor process. There are also Jacuzzi tubs available, in addition to birth balls, essential oils, and other therapeutic tools to keep mothers comfortable. Parents are treated to a special meal and free gifts after labor, and the mother's main "support person" is permitted to stay in-house after labor and delivery are finished. Many other educational opportunities are offered, including breastfeeding courses, "boot camp" for new dads, car seat safety clinics, and infant safety and CPR classes.
