River Valley Birth Center provides midwifery care and is the only licensed birth center in Southern Minnesota. They offer the midwifery model of care provided by Licensed Midwives, full-scope prenatal and postpartum care as well as care during the labor and birth process. Care at River Valley Birth Center is covered by most health insurance plans. They provide 30-60 minute prenatal visits, labs and ultrasounds, support of natural childbirth, birth plans and doulas, waterbirth, birth in a home-like environment, early discharge to your own home for faster recovery, a home visit provided by staff at 24-48 hours post birth, referrals to additional providers such as pediatricians and lactation consultants and 4-6 weeks of comprehensive postpartum care. The facility has private rooms equipped with queen-sized beds to rest on during labor and postpartum, private bathrooms, access to a full kitchen and freedom to walk around. Giving birth at home with a midwife present is also an option.
