OHSU Adventist Health Portland has a Family Birth Center that prioritizes the choices and needs of mothers and babies. The Family Birth Center offers the expertise of OB/GYNs, family medicine physicians, and Certified Nurse Midwives. Anesthesiologists are available 24/7 to provide pain relief via epidurals or other methods. Many of the nurses have special certifications in fetal monitoring, inpatient obstetrics, and lactation- and they are well-equipped to help mothers through the birthing process. There are many educational classes available for expecting mothers, including childbirth classes, breastfeeding courses, and infant CPR/first aid. There is also a support group for moms. Each birth takes place in a private room, and all stages of the birth and post-partum recovery take place in the same room. There is private bath with a Jacuzzi tub, TV, sound system, refrigerator, and microwave. A sofa chair converts into a single bed for birth partners to stay overnight.
